Administrative / Biographical History

12 Oct, year probably 1900 as she refers to Mme Meuricoffre and the letters to her she could use for the book. Mme Meuricoffre died in the autumn of 1900 and she set to work at once on a little book in memory of her sister, a collection of her letters published in 1901.

'I have read through all you have sent me except the packet I now return' Mme Meuricoffre, JB's dearly loved sister, 'Hatty', died late in Sep. JB had spent Aug with her at La Gordonne and Sep travelling round visiting friends and then when she landed in England she received a telegram announcing the death of this loved one. She immediately set to work on a book in memory of her sister and collected all her available letters. The book published the following year by Horace Marshall consisted of a collection of her letters under the title of 'In Memoriam Harriet Meuricoffre'. (For details of her visits in Sep see letter of 30 Aug 1900 and 28 Nov 1905)
