Josephine Butler to 'Dear Friends'

Scope and Content

Written from the Federation Office, Neuchatel. Emphasises that their hopes for greater justice and purity in the future depend on the continuance of effort from men and women. The Law alone is powerless; it will only be effective if inspired by a people awakened to the great idea of Justice. Suggests two practical actions: 1. To follow up the victory just obtained in Parliament by obtaining the parliamentary franchise for women 2. To labour to promote a spirit of patient perseverance.
