Josephine Butler to Rhoda Butler

Scope and Content

Photocopy letter. Written from Wimbledon. Unfinished. No signature

Discusses affairs at St Andrew's University mentioned in Stanley's letter involving Lord Bute and Viscount Peel. She understands his love for St Andrews. Thinks she may be leaving England the end of next week and would go straight to Caux (Montreux)

Hopes she has been some help to George and Mia and that he is

'a little further on in the matter of leaving the office'. George had a serious accident in Apr 1894 in which he suffered a fractured skull. He returned to work (Civil Service) in the autumn of 1895 but suffered badly from headaches and finally had to resign on 1 Jan 1896.

(For details of this accident see letter dated 18 Jan 1906 Josephine Butler to Miss Forsaith).
