'Agnes McLaren has asked me to stay with her'
Dr Agnes McLaren lived on the Riviera. She was an old friend of the Butlers and kept an eye on them when they came to recuperate in the sunshine. She was herself a Roman Catholic and was of great assistance to JB in arousing the interest of the Catholic hierarchy in her campaign.
