Incomplete - end of letter missing. Written from Rome. In answer to his letter of 18 Mar. He will try to give a slight idea of the point of view Dr Maresio has taken of syphilis. 'He has offered to dissect for me the Roman statistics that you had for some time at Liverpool'. His view is that the 'public is disposed to accept the truth as soon as it is made manifest, whereas all those doctors, etc. find it very often convenient to suppress or hide a truth when its application might politically be detrimental to the government.'

'I want to answer your kind letter of the 22nd.' Slight confusion over date as HJ Wilson's letter was dated 15 Mar but it may be that the letter with the signatures of the Executive Committee had the later date on it.
