George Grey Butler to Alison Neilans

Scope and Content

Written from Ewart Park, Wooler, Northumberland

He is very much interested in the subject matter of her letter (16 Jan), but the question of publishing letters of his mother's requires very careful handling and he cannot immediately send her a well-considered reply. He approves of the choice of Miss Turner. He was much disappointed with Dame Millicent Fawcett's Memoir of his Mother: 'It was full of inaccurate statements, and drew conclusions which were not justified. It was rather hurriedly breathless in appearance, though very well-meaning!'
