Josephine Butler to 'Dear Friends' [the Misses Priestman]

Scope and Content

Written from Scarborough. She has broken down again from long anxiety and the east winds there and they are returning home in two days or so. Hopes to be able to leave England early in Oct for the Riviera. 'I hear from Geneva that there are a goodly number of delegates there ... and that M de Laveleye is doing well'. This was the Federation Congress held at Geneva 9-13 Sep 1899, (For note on this Congress see letter of 29 May 1899).

Very grateful for loving gift from the LNA which has enabled them to have luxuries helpful to her husband. Owing to her illness will be rather late getting out the Oct 'Dawn'.
