Administrative / Biographical History

'I have come here till Monday to Miss Marshall'. 'The summer holidays of 1862 and 1863 were delightfully spent in part with our hospitable friends, the family of Mr Henry Marshall at Derwent Island on Derwentwater Lake' (From 'Life of George Butler' by JE Butler p 152)

Miss Theodosia Marshall, the lady mentioned here, lived at the time of writing on the outskirts of Leeds (Westwood) and was always very annoyed with JB if 'when she goes to Leeds' she is 'not all the time at Westwood'. Evidently Miss Marshall still visited the family home at Derwent Island for it was there that JB went to stay for a few days
