Administrative / Biographical History

'... constructive legislation, beyond that already initiated by Mr Charley'

See note on 'Mr Charley's Bastardy Bill' in letter of 28 Mar 1872 JB to Mr Edmondson. For note on Election Policy see letter from JB to Mr Clark 6 Jul 1872

'You would also be glad to learn that the 'Boarding School' petition ... was altogether wrongly designated'

The allegation appeared in the 'Daily Telegraph' of 22 May 1873 and was refuted in the 'Shield' of 5 Jul 1873 p 215. It appears that such petition 'was not signed by any of the pupils in that establishment and that the heading was inserted ... after the signatures had been appended to the Petition'
