Written from Liverpool. They have considered with great attention the proclamation of the Governor, Sir Bartle Frere, in which the Sanitary Act has been applied to Venereal Disease. Certainly we would in England, with our knowledge of the continental history of the matter, feel exceedingly uneasy. The first question they would ask is by what means the persons suffering from V.D. are to be discovered; secondly what is to be done if a person refuses to go to hospital; only forcible examination of women and that is illegal. They therefore advise them to look carefully into how the proclamation is being carried out by the Doctors and Police. They would be grateful for any information on the subject.
