Scope and Content

Photographs originally bundled together in an envelope, most of which are publicity shots of RD in theatrical roles. Also includes two press cuttings, and a photographic reproduction of a portrait. The prints are as follows: /1 Photograph of RD aged 21, subsequently used as publicity for the play Mary Rose [in 1930]. By Reprograph Studio, 10 Long Acre, London [c. 1926]. /2 Photograph of RD as Jack Absolute in Sheridan's The Rivals at the Cambridge Festival Theatre (1929). /3 Head and shoulders shot of RD as the Soldier in The Unknown Warrior, noted as "one of Robert Donat's favourite roles" [c. 1929]. /4-7 Four stage stills from a production of J.M. Barrie's Mary Rose [at Liverpool Playhouse], showing RD with Catherine Lacey and another actress [Mar 1930]. /8-10 Three studio shots of RD as Gideon Sarn in Precious Bane; RD's own caption on /9 notes that this role was "[m]y first stage sensation". /9-/10 are by Reprograph Studio, 10 Long Acre, London. /10 is marked up as a proof for publication [Jan 1931]. /11-12 Two stage stills from a production of Allan Monkhouse's Mary Broome at the Embassy Theatre, in which RD played Leonard Timbrell.
