Cuttings book

Scope and Content

Labelled "8. Films (1)". The cuttings largely relate to the contemporary film industry in general, rather than to RD's films specifically. Attached to the first page is the published Report of a Committee Appointed by the Board of Trade (London: November 1936): a report on the position of British films in the period leading up to the expiry of the Cinematograph Films Act of 1927. The rest of cuttings relate to: the future of the cinema; Douglas Fairbanks; RD's film The Ghost Goes West (1935) and brief references to The Thirty-Nine Steps and Knight Without Armour; Alexander Korda and his work; various British film stars; plans for a film of Hamlet with RD in the title role (1936); film director Carol Reed; Hollywood producer Hunt Stromberg; and French director René Clair.
