Scope and Content

Bundle of photocopied correspondence with Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (1899-1980), film director, and his secretary Joan Harrison, the originals of which date from 23 October 1936-7 Nov 1938. Contents covered include: RD's film plans in 1936; the possibility of undertaking a Reliance picture entitled Clementina; Hitchcock's invitation to RD to visit him in the country with Marlene [Dietrich] in October 1936; RD's contract with MGM in May 1938, and his hopes that he will be able to work with Hitchcock again; Hitchcock's plans to film Jamaica Inn; and King Vidor, with whom RD is working during 1938. /9-10 are copy telegrams relating to the possibility of RD acting in a film of Rebecca.
