Scope and Content

Large bundle of manuscript notes, transcripts and jottings by RD, many of which appear to date from the early to mid 1920s. They include some discrete bundles, but also many loose sheets, and are in no obvious order. The notes include: musings of a Romantic nature on the lost joy and spirituality of childhood, and the possibility of recapturing this through Art; rough ideas and workings toward plays, dialogue and prose pieces; drafts and transcripts of poems; notes of impressions and experiences; an incomplete commentary entitled 'Gordon Craig: A personal opinion' (/60-62); a couple of rough sketches; RD's musings on Thomas Hardy's work (/87-91); and an essay entitled 'Art and Ambition' (/112-14).

All holograph except /118, which is typescript but signed by RD.
