Administrative / Biographical History

Stage Management Association (SMA) established in 1954 is a trade association for UK stage managers, providing support and advocacy for its members. David Ayliff, who managed this archive, was a co-founding member of the Stage Management Association and Honorary Life President. He also served as Equity Stage Management Councillor (1965-1976). He was the creator of the Stage Management Association's minutes from 1954 to 2003 and editor of Cueline magazine. Ayliff continued to contribute to the association following his retirement from stage management and up until his death in 2017.
