Magazines entitled 'The Lighthouse'

Scope and Content

Issues of a privately produced magazine,'The Lighthouse', hand written and copied for circulation by hectograph printing process. The content matter of the magazine is largely political, ranging from results of local by-elections, to political situations and politicians mainly in the UK, France and American.

Includes a note from edition E. K. Brown at the front of the volume "It is proposed to publish monthly a hectographed journal entitled 'The Lighthouse'. This journal will deal with topics of the day, and form a convenient synopsis of the events of the month. Its politics will be Gladstonian Liberal; it will appear on or about the 15th of every month. 'The Lighthouse' will draw its information from reliable daily journals but all articles will be original. The subscription will be one penny a month, by post three-half-pence. 'The Lighthouse' will only appear if enough subscriptions are promised".

Administrative / Biographical History

The magazine was edited by E. K. Brown of The Manse, Bedford, and was paid for by subscription. Publications of 'The Lighthouse' only lasted for one year, January-December 1894.
