Correspondence, papers, plans and drawings relating to the garden project, 1982-1983, designed as part of an HND thesis by
C.J. Collins at Askham Bryan College of Agriculture and Horticulture. The managing committee of the Wilberforce Home adopted the scheme 'as far as practically possible'.
The garden was designed with the multiple-handicapped blind in mind, taking into consideration the senses of touch, smell and sound. There were sweet smelling plants, water-features, such as a weir and fountain, a raised water channel to enable wheel chair
residents to put their hands in the water safely, a pond with guard rails, paths with raised edges, a summerhouse, seating, and a paddock with a horse and feeding area.
