Scope and Content

By Gustav Holst, 1908, full score finished 1909. An Episode from the Mahabharata.

Libretto by the composer.

1. Complete vocal score, autograph manuscript, [105pp]

Also includes notes written by Gustav Holst on the performance and setting of the opera. Includes some later annotations in Imogen Holst's hand.

2. Photostat of letter to Imogen Holst from [?]Nora Culm regarding possession of the Savitri manuscript (13th May 1973)

3. Typescript letter to Imogen Holst from John H. Balderstone regarding lending the Savitri manuscript to Imogen for revision and the possibility of copying it photographically (25th Oct 1981)

4. Programme for a Sotheby's auction of Music, Continental Manuscripts and Printed Books. An additional pencil annotation reds 'Lot 432'. Also a description of the Savitri manuscript written for the aucion with pencil annotation in Imogen Holst's hand 'Bought on behalf of the HOLST FOUNDATION by Otto Haas' (28th May 1986)
