BRIGHTWELL BALDWIN ESTATE RECORDS

Scope and Content

Estate records predominantly from Brightwell Baldwin and surrounding parishes, particularly lands owned by the Lowndes-Stone-Norton family: including title deeds (15th-19th centuries), estate surveys (circa 18th-19th centuries), enclosure award 1802, and pedigree of Lowndes-Stone-Norton family, 1872.

Title deeds have been arranged by property and then chronologically, with sub-groups relating to parishes or manors wherever possible. It is common for several pieces of land to be conveyed via one deed, with subsequent deeds relating to various combinations of lands. Documents within section E43/10 are those which either cover large parcels of land in several parishes or manors, or which relate specifically to named individuals, e.g. probate documents or marriage settlements.

In descriptions the county is Oxfordshire unless otherwise stated.

The documents were deposited in March 1999 as accession number 4479. Catalogued by Ruth Imeson in January 2003. See also documents at reference LSN.
