Copy typewritten letter from Frederick Lanchester to Admiral Sir Reginal Bacon

Scope and Content

In reply to LAN/1/12/16. Questions about the naval engagement between “Rawalpindi” and the “Deutschland”[the Rawalpindi was an armed merchant cruiser which engaged the German battleship Deutschland and was sunk in November 1939]; Lanchester learnt to type at age of 30; views on Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain; why do we not bomb the enemy? Hopes America will not enter the war or we shall lose the peace; the people of this country deserve to be bombed for supporting the League of Nations and disarmament; pins his faith to France so far as peace terms are concerned; suspects that Nazi funds have been used to influence Labour policy in England.
