On lack of recognition, financial position; scheme to raise testimonial fund for himself: the government alone do not recognise his achievement; Sir Patrick Hannon tried to get £3000 from the Air Ministry from him; but failed; Geoffrey Smith tried to raise £5000 from the automobile industry but failed owing to the opposition of “a certain millionaire” (Nuffield?); has received a grant of £200 per year from the Edward Manville Fund, connected with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (see LAN/1/12/118 – 125); other sources of income have rapidly disappeared (i.e. expert advice and article writing); collection of £1450 was given to him, but he is worried about the terms of the insurance policy to be taken out with this sum.
