Scope and Content

  • Lists of paupers in the parish of Llanedwen, including reasons for relief and amounts paid (1849-1860)
  • Election declarations of guardians of the poor, for counties Anglesey and Caernarfonshire (1844-1869)
  • Quarterly and other abstracts of expenditure for parishes in Bangor and Beaumaris Union (1845-1859)

Administrative / Biographical History

Provision for the poor of Llanedwen parish, situated along the south Anglesey coast in north Wales, was administered as part of Bangor and Beaumaris Union. In common with other parishes, Llanedwen had a civil governmental function with responsibility for poor relief, maintenance of highways and law and order, which continued until local government reforms in the nineteenth century.
