Has just returned from 'another nightmare spell deep in Persian protocol'. Did not get to see much countryside, but did manage to go to the Turcoman steppes. Describes the people and animals that she saw. Had to spend the nights in horrible hotels. Will be thankful to finish the book on the 'lovely and charming Empress' and get back to her book on Pierre Loti. Her little house seems like paradise now. Discusses her garden and the gardener, Charles de Noailles. Plans to be in London in the first two weeks in January and asks to visit Beaton. Asks if Beaton has read Fulco's book.
