File relating primarily to Bowden's evidence to the Sizewell B inquiry on 20 September 1983. The inquiry, chaired by Sir Frank Layfield, examined the desirability of introducing a pressurised water nuclear reactor at the Sizewell power station. This proposal aroused considerable public opposition, and Bowden was an outspoken critic of the proposed type of PWR. Bowden outlined his preference for the CANDU reactors, an alternative pressurised water reactor developed in Canada. The file includes a copy of Bowden's evidence (prepared in 1982), a supplement to his oral evidence, prepared in 1984, and a transcript of Bowden's evidence. There are also comments on CANDU reactors in a letter from J.A. Macpherson (Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.), and note of conversation with George Pons, 1980, concerning CANDU.
