Journal

Scope and Content

A handwritten journal extract/notes, possibly by James Bone, of various incidents or recollections, headed 'A Day in Fleet Street', beginning with the visit of E.I. [Evelyn Issitt?], who had been to see Ethel Walker, A.R.A.; followed by news from El Vino's [luncheon club at the Café Royal], relating to a letter in The Times regarding money going to Ireland from Armed Forces and agricultural workers; a reference to Dullin and the Abbey Theatre; R.L. had heard a red-start in the Temple; Councillor Ian Mackay, Labour correspondent for the News Chronicle on a Labour meeting at Blackpool, Communists and Citrine.

In Fleet Street he encountered Bretherton, now Captain in the Intelligence Staff, just back from Freetown, who informed him that Peter Belloc had died of pneumonia; Bretherton's father's book on Ireland could now be published.
