Administrative / Biographical History

Smiths (Glasgow) Ltd existed in Glasgow, Scotland, from at least 1929  , as restaurateurs, purveyors, bakers, wine importers and government contractors. The company had its main offices in Gordon Street, Glasgow, and operated the Corn Exchange Restaurant, the Grosvenor Restaurant, and a tea room and bakers on Gordon Street; the Athenaeum Restaurant on Buchanan Street, Glasgow; and a bakery and stores on St Vincent Street, Glasgow. The company also provided catering services for luncheons, civic receptions, weddings and a variety of other functions.

Sometime between 1934 and 1937  the company became known as Grosvenor Caterers (Glasgow) Ltd and continued to trade until at least 1971  when it no longer appears in Glasgow trade directories.
