North Eastern District Co-operative Conference Association

Scope and Content

Minutes of the conference quarterly meetings, council and committee meetings 1879-1951.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Forfarshire and Perthshire Co-operative Conference Association was set up in 1879 in response to a circular issued by the Scottish Section of the Congress Board. Its aim was to regularly bring together the co-operative societies in the two counties, encouraging greater communication and collaboration, promoting best practice and thereby strengthening the co-operative movement. It also had a propaganda role in publicising the ideals of the movement in the district. In 1900 the name was changed to the Forfarshire, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire Co-operative Conference Association, and in 1918 it became the North Eastern District Co-operative Conference Association.
