Administrative / Biographical History
John Bart Shearer (1904-1962) joined the Indian Civil Service in 1929 and wasposted to the Punjab. He became Under-Secretary to the Government of IndiaFinance Department in 1933 and Deputy Secretary, 1935. His postings thereafterincluded Commissioner of Income Tax, 1939, member of the Central Board ofRevenue, Government of Pakistan, 1947, Manager for Greece, Ionian Bank Ltd.,1950-1957, and member of the Nigerian Minorities Commission, 1957-1958. Awardedthe OBE in 1944, CIE in 1947 and CMG in 1952, he married Ann Edith Dunnettin 1946.
