Scope and Content

Contains handwritten drafts of texts by John Piper, many are titled, inlcuding 'Constable', 'No Movement, No Programmes', 'A New View of Drawing' and 'Alton Towers'. (These are often lengthy). As well as notes relating to art and architecture subjects. Also lists or bibliographies of published material relating to architecture and archaeology.

Contains sketches and b&w photographs by Piper of church and domestic architecture, stained glass, landscape and prehistoric and archaeological sites in the UK. Includes sketches of the interior and exterior and plans of buildings and of architectural and stained glass details. Many are accompanied by explanatory notes that suggest some may have been copied from published sources and existing images.

Lists and a hand drawn map of 18th and 19th century churches in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Nottinghamshire.

Stuck into the notebook are images and text from published articles about architecture, stained glass and reproductions of works by other artists.
