Annual reports, 1930-1969; various minute series, including General Meetings, Executive Committee and Finance Sub-committee meetings, 1929-1970; branch reports 1941-1970; files about courses, 1942-1969; and about approval of university/polytechnic courses, 1943-1970; Association of Psychiatric Social Workers' publications, including  British Journal of Psychiatric Social Work, 1947-1970, Association of Psychiatric Social Workers' circulars, 1943-1970, and publications by Association of Psychiatric Social Workers' members; evidence and memoranda submitted to enquiries, 1934-1969, for example, the Home Office Committee on Children and the Cinema, 1948-1949.

Administrative / Biographical History

The association was established in 1929. In 1970 it merged with six other social workers' organisations to form the British Association of Social Workers.

Arrangement

The archives of BASW's predecessors were listed before their deposit in the Centre. A published catalogue is available for purchase. The archives of the different organisations are distinguished by different initials.

Conditions Governing Access

There are no restrictions on access to these papers, except for membership records and other papers restricted under the Data Protection Act, 1998.

Acquisition Information

This collection was deposited in the Centre by the British Association of Social Workers, 17th July 1997. BASW deposited its own archives in the Centre in 2003.
