Administrative / Biographical History

Civil parishes were established by the Local Government Act 1894. The civil parishes took over some responsibilities previously administered by the (ecclesiastical) parish vestry. The parish of Canton was created in 1858 from the parts of the parishes of Leckwith and Llandaff lying within the borough of Cardiff. The whole of the civil parish was incorporated into Cardiff County Borough in 1875.
