This series includes items from a file marked ‘disinformation.’ It includes articles, telexes, messages, letters and other associated material concerning a number of disinformation campaigns mainly directed against the US. In particular, there are papers regarding Soviet disinformation campaigns, allegations that third world babies were shipped to the United States to use their body parts in surgery and that AIDS was invented by US scientists, an interview given by United States General Norman Schwarzkopf about the Gulf War and two campaigns directed against Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. The series also includes a bundle of papers concerning the United Nations, a bundle regarding an article in The Heritage Foundation Backgrounder about the UN Library and single items related to a variety of other disinformation campaigns.
