Scope and Content

Printed College Statutes. Copy of the Rector [James Thompson]. The preface to the 1853 printed statutes notes, "Richard Flemming, the first Founder of Lincoln College, left no Statutes for its government. This omission was supplied by the second Founder, Thomas Rotherham, Bishop of Lincoln, and afterwards Archbiship of York. his statutes are here printed from two copies among the Manuscripts in the British Museum, viz., Harleian MSS. 6664 and 7029; and from a copy belonging to Trinity College, Cambridge, which has been compared with the copy in the College archives. The text has also been collated with a MS. of the Rawlinson Collection in the Bodleian Library and this copy was found to have omissions of considerable extent, and principally of portions relating to divine services."
