Beyond 'The True Likeness of John Wesley', by Dr Peter Forsaith

Scope and Content

Article in The Proceedings of the Wesley Historical Society, Volume 62 Part 2. Dr Forsaith establishes likely provenance of Lincoln College's portrait of John Wesley in his later years, hanging in the Wesley Room, as purchased by A H Carr from auction at Christies in Lot 40, 8 May 1905, and gifted to Lincoln College c.1937, based on correspondence with J A R Munro, rector. Forsaith states the painting is likely to have been executed by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
