Scope and Content

Notes relating to George Hickes, including lists of sources, a chronology of Hickes's life, genealogical notes relating to Hickes, tables of the first day of every month from 1675 to 1715, chronologies of contemporaries of Hickes, handwritten and typed extracts from sources on Hickes, and a hand-drawn map of Bloomsbury, where Hickes lived from 1698 until his death in 1715. Inserted into the file is a copy of the 1916 edition Ordnance Survey map of Kirby Wiske, Newsham with Breckenbrough and Thornton le Street, Yorkshire (Sheet LXXXVII), a card sent to Martin from 'L.B.' dated 9 March 1928, a piece of blotting paper, a letter to Martin from Kenneth Henson dated 27 November 1946 thanking him for enclosing something, blank Bodleian Library reader slips and a Bodleian Library reader slip signed by R. R. Martin dated 2 January 1924. Also enclosed in the file are several items sent to or accumulated by R. R. Martin which have notes by Martin written on them, including a letter to Martin from L. West, Secretary of A. W. Bain & Co. Ltd. dated 23 November 1931 regarding the sending to Martin of copies of volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, a battels bill from Lincoln College, Oxford (18 May 1932) and an envelope addressed to Martin with a 28 January 1928 postmark.

The pages have been removed from the ringbinder as the rings have rusted, but the ringbinder has been retained as its cover features writing by R. R. Martin.
