Scope and Content

The Buttery Books are the earliest record of members’ battels, and give a daily list of accumulating items with a weekly total. Originally buttery purchases alone are given; later other elements are added. By 1846 the pages are divided into specific columns and the volumes have become de facto Battels books.

The series marked Battels Books contain weekly and quarterly totals of charges.  The General Account records the University Dues of individual members.

Hall Books are a record of High Table diners.
