Scope and Content

A notebook of William Warde Fowler created at an unknown date when he was at Marlborough College, which contains notes on the Bible, Demosthenes, Plato, Sophocles' Antigone, other Latin texts, Guizot's Civilization,ancient history, Greek vocabulary, Greek and Latin grammar, comparative philology; Greek verse and Latin prose (which may consist of original compositions by Fowler); a sketch of a man which is labelled 'SOLOMON'; translations of Greek and Latin prose and poetry (including from Plato); Latin translations of English poetry (including from Alexander Pope); and a quotation from Livy. There are miscellaneous notes on the endpapers. A piece of card is inserted into the volume. There is a slip of paper inserted into the front of the volume labelling it as one of the 'Marlborough Note Books.'; this may have been created by a previous cataloguer of the archive.
