Railway Image Collection

Scope and Content

A collection of postcards and some drawings of British and international locomotives, with some related printed material collected by Chard. Many of the images have been digitised and can be viewed on the individual catalogue records.

Many images are from series released by "Locomotive Magazine", mainly silver gelatin and collodion photoreal postcards. Monochrome unless stated otherwise. Published by Locomotive Publishing Company, unless stated otherwise. Where build year is known this has been noted in the description, the date field being that of publication. Each image card has been individually catalogued.

Edward Alan Chard was chief locomotive draughtsman Eastleigh Works, British Railways, Southern Region. He was an avid collection of railway items.
