The firm dealt with property and land throughout Caernarfonshire, Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire. The firm collected records relating to the local government of Merionethshire, including those of Merioneth County Council, based in Dolgellau, Merionethshire, which took over many administrative duties of the Court of Quarter Sessions, such as responsibility for roads, bridges, county rates, county buildings, the police force, and licensing. The Local Government Act 1929 transferred responsibility for public assistance from the Boards of Guardians to the county councils. Other responsibilities relating to public health, agriculture, mental deficiency, highways and planning were transferred to the councils between 1919 and 1947.
