Arnold Toynbee letter

Scope and Content

Address: Oxford. To 'My dear Rector' [Mark Pattison, Rector of Lincoln College Oxford]. Mentions the 1853 edition of William Cobbett's 'Rural Rides', with notes by James Paul Cobbett. 'It is singular that the son should have caught the father's power of genuine description so perfectly. I should very much like to shew you William Cobbett's book, and, if you will allow me, I will bring it next term for you to see... I ought to say how grateful I am to Montefiore for the introduction he gave me to you ...'
