Comprises Harvey Pitcher's own publications on Russian language, literature (including A.P. Chekhov), and history (including the history of the British community in Russia), the publications of others on Russian language, offprints and cuttings from British and American periodicals on Russian language, politics, history, Britons in Russia, Anglo-Soviet cultural and academic exchanges, and reviews of various books by Russian and British scholars; also material deriving from the Russian courses of the Joint Services School of Languages, Craill

Administrative / Biographical History

Harvey J. Pitcher (1936-) founded the Russian Department at the University of St Andrews in 1963. He has been a private scholar since 1971, publishing extensively on Russian literature (particularly A.P. Chekhov) and the British community in Russia
