Sylvia Plath original material

Scope and Content

Typewritten drafts with autograph annotations by Sylvia Plath. Includes two copies of notes of an interview with Plath's therapist (one annotated) and draft descriptive passages about people whom Plath and Hughes met whilst living in Devon. The majority of the descriptions have been marked by Hughes as 'S.P.'s notes'. These passages and the notes of an interview with Plath's therapist, Ruth Beuscher may have been retained as they were not available to researchers or published in the 1982 edition of Plath's journals in their original form. The interview with Beuscher was later published in a second edition of The Journals of Sylvia Plath, 1950-1962 in 2000, whilst the descriptive passages were published using the actual names (in some cases they had been included in the 1982 edition with names changed to protect the identities of individuals).
