Hughes outgoing letters

Scope and Content

Partly typewritten and partly autograph copies of outgoing letters sent by Hughes. Where possible outgoing letters have been matched with the corresponding incoming ones however in the case of these letters this has not been possible; in some cases it has been difficult because letters give only the recipients' forenames. A school exercise book containing some autograph passages of letters written by Hughes to his parents between 1957 and April 1960; a letter written in support of an application by Michael Baldwin for a Civil List Pension and two enclosures, which were originally included with the copy letters although the reasoning is unclear are also included. In a letter to 'David' Hughes writes about the origins of St George. Further information about this topic can also be found in Add MS 88918/11/1.

Letters are arranged alphabetically by the name of recipient, by surname when given or by forename when a surname is not provided (letters to companies are arranged alphabetically by company name). Loose enclosures and a school exercise book containing copy letters have been placed at the end.
