Scope and Content

Mainly typewritten and printed, with autograph annotations. Includes two copies of the contract between Ted Hughes and the Sylvia Plath Estate, and Smith College relating to the sale of the archive (one copy is only partial and sent as an enclosure). Correspondence relating to sensitive material, and the wishes and concerns of the Estate about press interest and access by researchers is also included. A photocopy of a page from Sylvia Plath's diary (23-29th September 1962) (original at Smith College), letters about the acquisition of the Houghton Mifflin Company Papers on Bitter Fame, which include correspondence and notes by Ted Hughes, and letters relating to Smith College's offer to send Frieda Hughes her mother's typewriter are included.
