Scope and Content

Autograph pages of diary entries, which include accounts of family life, events and people whom Hughes met. An account of his purchase of Lumb Bank; reflections on his literary work; thoughts on the Poetry International festival (1967); his mother's illness and death; and his visit to Buckingham Palace to receive the Gold Medal from the Queen (1974) are included.
