Unpublished children's stories

Scope and Content

Nine autograph children's stories, which appear to have been written for Hughes's children, Frieda and Nicholas, and often feature two characters called Frooda and Nooky. The stories are written on the back of letters and other literary drafts including 'The Courting of Petty Quinnett', and 'Difficulties of a Bridegroom'. This material was described by Hughes in 1996 as a file containing 'sketch drafts of eight children's stories - still to be written' (information taken from Add MS 88918/144/1).
