Scope and Content

ENVELOPE addressed to Mr James. S Bell, Storm Lake, State Iowa, U.S. America. Stamped with 1d red.

Enclosed:

LETTER: Elizabeth Jones to her brother and sister. She mentions her aunt's ill-health. She says the war is very bad: German submarines are in the Irish Channel; they have sunk 3 or 4 vessels and chased one of the Holyhead Mail Boats. There was a report that a German spy has been caught in the town. Hundreds of soldiers are in the country, training to go out with Kitchener next month. Bread is very dear and horses are scarce with so many gone to war.

CONTINUATION OF LETTER: The German submarines sank a ship belonging to Liverpool [2 days ago] near Holyhead. News of William and Anne and their families.
