HENRY LONG & SONS OF WITNEY

Scope and Content

This firm of ironmongers, plumbers and heating engineers began in the middle of the 19th century as a partnership between Henry Long and his son, William Henry Long, and was incorporated in February 1910. Its premises were originally at 69 High Street in Witney. By 1920 no's 85 & 87 were also being used by the company in their capacity as agricultural engineers. Kelly's Directory for 1928 further describes Long & Sons as "sports outfitters". The business was finally closed in 1972.

The company's records contained in this collection are mostly ledgers, journals and other financial records, but there are also bundles of correspondence and customers' orders.

The material was received on permanent loan from the managing director in July 1972, and was given accession number 1035.
