Administrative / Biographical History
Ann Jellicoe was born in Middlesborough in 1927. She studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama before working with fringe theatres. She acted and directed, but is best known for her work as a playwright. In 1962 she wrote 'The Knack' which was performed at the Royal Court and later adapted into a film. In the 1980s and 1990s she worked on Community Plays in several regions of Great Britain.
Peter Cox acquired this script during his time working as Stage Manger at the Royal Court. Cox came across this script, along with an umbrella from a Samuel Beckett production of Happy Days, when he was sent to clear out the Royal Courts stores, previously situated under the arches at Camden Lock.
