Papers of Henry Wellesley

Scope and Content

Sermons, numbered between 1 and 464, thought to have been formerly owned by Henry Wellesley, and preached between 1753 and 1812. There are also texts and drafts of Wellesley's Anthologia polyglotta, a Greek anthology published in London in 1849.

Administrative / Biographical History

Henry Wellesley (1794-1866) was Principal of New Inn Hall, Oxford, and an art connoisseur. Wellesley also had a talent for languages; he became curator of the Taylor Institution from 1855, and donated his books to the Library. See the Dictionary of National Biography for details.
